Sunshine Plaza Update: Which Shops will be Open for Christmas?
The first retail stage of Lendlease's Sunshine Plaza's $420 million redevelopment opened to the public on Thursday 15th of November. Thousands came to inspect the new stores on offer, including a refurbished Myer, Harry Hartog, Oscar Wylee, Mr & Mrs Jones, Noosa Chocolate Factory, Mott & Mulberry, Universal Store and Sunburn. Stage Two of the redevelopment is set to open in early 2019, with the opening of David Jones, Big W, H&M and Tommy Hilfiger – just to name a few! “Stage One is giving our customers a taste of what is to come when we launch Sunshine Plaza as a super regional shopping centre early next year.” said Lendlease Managing Director Retail, Gary Horwitz. Together with the opening of the largest high ropes course on poles in the world, this centre is changing the retail landscape and bringing a new dimension of experience retailing to the Sunshine Coast, for tourists and local alike. A fully refurbished Myer, approximately 40 specialty stores and a new Amaroo Street entrance will be revealed at the opening, just in time for Christmas. The 15th of November will also see the opening of a brand-new internal kids play area with a nautical theme and the addition of new custom seating areas at the bridge link on the ground level. Two new food and beverage offers will also be located opposite the kids play area and will be operating by early 2019. |
The second and final stage of the redevelopment is set to delivered before Easter 2019.
The Final Retail Stage will feature the region’s first David Jones, a new Big W, approximately 60 specialty stores and new alfresco dining along Cornmeal Promenade.
The transformed Centre featuring a new Amaroo Street mall entrance and outdoor waterfront dining and leisure precient along Cornmeal Creek will further enhance the ‘indoor / outdoor’ experience at Sunshine Plaza.
Subject to DA approval, it is anticipated the High Ropes course will also be delivered before Easter 2019.
Works on the external Riverwalk precinct will continue both pre and post-Christmas, revitalizing the boardwalks with new covered walkways, enhancing landscaping, installing a new water feature and additional customer rest zones.
The redevelopment will deliver a leading fashion, leisure and tourist destination that provides guests with an exceptional shopping experience.
This will see centre expand from 73,000 square metres to over 107,000 square metres becoming the largest retail centre north of Brisbane.
The enhanced retail mix will include the region’s first David Jones department store, a new BIGW, a fully refurbished Myer, over 100 new specialty stores and provision for large format fashion operators, bringing highly sought-after fashion brands to the Sunshine Coast.
The redevelopment will also include car parking improvements to ensure convenient access, with two new multi-level car parks and over 1400 additional new car spaces, taking the total number of spaces to nearly 5,000.
