More than 500 jobs on show ! Wed 19 Oct 2016
If you’re looking for a job, a different job or even your first job, make a date with the Sunshine Coast JobShow on Wednesday October 19.
More than 500 jobs have already been listed for the Sunshine Coast Council initiative that will be held at the TAFE Queensland East Coast Campus.
Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said it would be the largest one-stop shop of current and upcoming job vacancies on the Sunshine Coast in the one place on the one day.
“After helping more than 170 local people find jobs last year, the Sunshine Coast job Show is aiming to create more employment opportunities in 2016,” Cr Robinson said.
“The JobShow will bring together employers and prospective employees at the TAFE East Coast campus and offer everything from entry level to professional jobs as well as apprenticeships and traineeships across a wide range of industries.
“This fantastic event will also include workshops providing job-seekers with the knowledge, skills and contacts to maximise their employment chances and improve their job seeking skills. People who register now at www.thejobshow.com.au can also get their resumes checked before the event.
“Job seekers can also upload their resumes now via the event website to have them matches against suitable available jobs.
“The Job Show supports the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) that aims to triple the size of our economy to $33 billion over the next 20 years and increase the number of jobs in our seven High Value industries from 59,000 to 100,000.”
“To see more than 500 jobs already listed from major locally based companies like Stellar BPO, Youi and Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Services highlights the value in having this clear economic plan and a determined focus on its implementation that’s helping to generate consistently high business confidence within our region as demonstrated in the last three six-monthly business confidence surveys.
“High business confidence encourages business to invest and employ and that’s great news for job seekers who attend the Sunshine Coast JobShow on October 19.”
Gourmet Garden Human Resources Manager Rebecca Tindall said the multi-award winning Palmwoods-based company was excited to list a number of employment opportunities at this year’s event.
“Gourmet Garden is proud to contribute to the local economy by offering a range of roles at the JobShow, specifically in warehouse & logistics and manufacturing,” she said.
“We’re keen to connect with experienced high reach forklift operators, enthusiastic manufacturing operatives and machine operators all looking for a long term employment security on the Sunshine Coast.”
Last year’s inaugural JobShow turned out to be a life-changing experience for 18-year old Louis Cadman, who secured a four-year plastering apprenticeship on the day through East Coast Apprenticeships.
“I’d been through a few jobs while I was at school at a pizza store, a shoe store, Bunnings and Kmart but that was all casual work and I needed something a bit more permanent because I’m getting older and I wanted to put my head down and do something with my life,” Louis said. “I went to the Job Show with it in the back of my head that I could get a job out of this. I definitely thought an apprenticeship was going to be ‘me’ and I had some knowledge about plastering so I decided to go for it and I’m so glad I did!” |
Registrations are open for anyone who wants a job, a different job or a better job via the JobShow website www.thejobshow.com.au. There are also opportunities for more local businesses and employers who want to exhibit at the event or list jobs during the campaign.
