Road rehabilitation improves driving safety and journey quality on 200 local roads

Sunshine Coast Council is responsible for maintaining more than 2200 kilometres of roads across our region – that’s about the same distance of road you’d travel if you were driving from here to Adelaide.

Local Infrastructure Delivery Portfolio Councillor Greg Rogerson said in 2017/18, council’s $18.7 million Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program is delivering improvements to more than 200 local roads.

“This program is part of a 10-year $225 million investment by council to repair road failures, improve the road surface and renew line markings, ensuring residents and visitors have access to safe and high quality local roads,” Cr Rogerson said.

“Some of the major rehab and reseal projects undertaken during this current financial year include Currimundi Road, which included strengthening the material underneath the road, replacing the pavement and adding a new asphalt wearing surface to ensure the road remains durable and safe.”

”The Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program also resolves issues with roads affected by extreme weather conditions such as storms, flooding and high temperatures.

“We encourage residents and visitors to be aware of potential damage to our roads caused by severe weather events.

“Our crews are available 24 hours a day to help rectify any issues and carry out ongoing improvements to the highest standards.”

“Please be aware that detours may be in place around road works to help with traffic flowing while works are in progress so please slow down and follow traffic directions near all road works for your safety and that of the people working on the roads,” Cr Rogerson said.
